About Mod Cottage

You can call me Em.

I love living in a little old house. It’s 1100 square feet bursting with character and style that newly-constructed double- and triple-sized houses can’t touch. And, as it’s 88 years old, taking my place as about the 7th owner is an everyday execution of reduce/reuse/recycle. Its old windows, compact floorplan and random quirks make me happy every day.

But as much as I love old houses, and I LOVE old houses, I don’t really have old-house taste when it comes to furnishings and lifestyle. So I (and by “I” I mean “we” as this is a team effort) take great and regular pleasure in swatting away at “cottage style.”

Making your home in an old cottage doesn’t mean that you have to surround yourself in “cottage style.” Everything doesn’t have to be whitewashed, crackle-finished, or made to resemble fin de siecle Parisian laundry signage.

Modern lives can fit comfortably, suprisingly, delightfully into old rooms. It’s good, beautiful fun!
