Really? MORE beautiful bamboo? Yes.

An object is right for my modern cottage if it feels both comfortably familiar and excitingly new or unusual. For me, making modern design work in an old cottage means finding things whose materials mix creatively in a sort of design time-travel. Modern design executed in a traditional medium or vice versa writes one recipe for success. Traditional design or functionality re-imagined in a new way is another. Since a gazillion artists and product designers work with these things in mind for their own reasons, I benefit. Yay me.

And here’s one now. This little bamboo container charms me. The simple design emphasizes the natural artistry of the wood and uses a familiar type of material in a spare, elegant way. The streamlined form adds excitement to the comfort of an organic material. It would look inviting and touchable in my home. As “inviting” pretty much sums up the cottage sensibility for me, objects such as this dial direct to my pocket-book. It’s frequently really, really hard not hang up.
