My Mid-Century Christmas Village

midcentury paper houses
When I was growing up, my mom had one of those old dimestore cardboard Christmas villages displayed on our holiday mantle. It was vintage and she’d picked it up at a garage sale for a quarter or so. I always loved its simple, happy charm.
While those little alpine and traditional style villages are darling, I feel like modern cottages get the shaft when it comes to celebrating their cuteness. I mean, nothing looks more festive to me than straight-angled rooflines dripping C9s. So I thought I’d make a tiny cardboard village of mid-century style houses. They aren’t elaborate or glitter-covered, but I like them. If I find myself with a lot of extra time on my hands, I might decorate a batch with sparkles and paint and set the scene around them with palm trees. For now though, I dig the one-color/one-sheet simplicity of them.
If you’d like to make them yourself, here are my patterns:
one-level with carport
doelger style
peaked roof/eichler-y
If you build them and fancy them up, do come add a comment with a link to photos!

And once again, while completely counterintuitive, simplicity comes with a larger price tag.
Hey. I just found your blog, and I love it! Looking forward to browsing around some more.
